「S P A C E」Chapter 1, UNDERCURRENT

FORME DE FLUIDITÉ’s「SPACE」collections have deep meaning for the brand. For her inspiration, designer Sophia XiNLI delved back into her experience as an architect, and also, she has been greatly influenced by Constructivism which had a fundamental effect on modern art movements of the 20th century, such as Bauhaus and De Stijl movements, and upon architecture, industrial design, film and fashion etc, to interpret concepts of SPACE and TIME - concepts intimately linked to philosophical theories of humankind existence – through the language of fashion. From her point of view, fashion design has been given a new meaning and proposition in the new era of post-pandemic and accelerated fusion of real and virtual worlds. More than ever, fashion design should express the essence of society and technology and be closer to the wearer’s spiritual world.

Space and time are the only forms on which life is built and hence art must be constructed.

—— Naum Gabo

The UNDERCURRENT Collection explores the concept of SPACE through movement.
With movement, the boundaries between the inner and the outer surfaces are blurred and an invisible dynamic is brought to our perception by the tangible.

Our designs harness three linear forms to express movement: embedded contour lines highlighted by contrasting materials; three-dimensional whirl-features that rise intriguingly from the surface; and the free lines from the surface that dance with the body. These three forms encapsulate a transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional; static to dynamic.

Lustrous twill, metallic faux leather, textured satin, and jacquard fused with a sense of both the retro and the modern are applied to present a compositional tension between contrasting textures, giving dynamic presentation to the whole body. The colour palette bases with silver grey and black, merged with beige and highlighted with a brush of royal purple and patina brown, endowing the collection with a mysterious undercurrent.
